The Dark Ages

There were at times but very few copies of the Bible in existence. In the different countries of Europe, men were moved by the Spirit of God to search for the truth as for hidden treasure. Providentially guided to the Holy Scriptures, they were willing to accept the light, at any cost to themselves.

A Bible Answer

The Cross, what does it mean?

Answer:   Galatians 3:13

"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us."

And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8.

"And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him."     "That He might sanctify the people with His own blood," Christ "suffered without the gate." Hebrews 13:12. For transgression of the law of God, Adam and Eve were banished from Eden. Christ, our substitute, was to suffer without the boundaries of Jerusalem. He died outside the gate, where felons and murderers were executed. Full of significance are the words, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us." Galatians 3:13.

In the sufferings of Christ upon the cross prophecy was fulfilled. Centuries before the crucifixion, the Saviour had foretold the treatment He was to receive. He said, "Dogs have compassed Me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed Me: they pierced My hands and My feet. I may tell all My bones: they look and stare upon Me. They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My vesture." Psalm 22:16-18. The prophecy concerning His garments was carried out without counsel or interference from the friends or the enemies of the Crucified One. To the soldiers who had placed Him upon the cross, His clothing was given. Christ heard the men's contention as they parted the garments among them. His tunic was woven throughout without seam, and they said, "Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be." Read More

With the fall of American society, we see amazing blindness to an increasing danger to freedom. While many Protestant values are being shed, there is a failure to recognize what the open borders mean to freedom of religion and freedom of conscience. For some reason, the eye has been turned from the reality of what it means to admit into America those who despise religious freedom.

Europe, which has extolled the virtues of "diversity" are seeing the results of treating all cultures the same. They had little regard for their Protestant heritage and now realize it may to late to stop the carnage. Women who do not cover their heads are being raped because they are said to be prostitutes. Sweden which began their experiment in the 70s, now is known as the rape capitol of the world.

It is interesting to see those in America who are so violent about equality for women remain silent about Islam and its violence towards women. There is a sickness spreading throughout the world. Hypocrisy. We see that the world and this hypocrisy has entered the church.

Europe has areas that are so violent that police will not enter, yet nothing is said about the fall of its society. Still governments are pushing for more immigration instead of less. How is it that the people's safety is of such little concern? And, in America there are many who wonder how such a man as Donald Trump could be elected President. The devil himself could be elected if he stood against what is happening in America. Of course the devil is a liar and would not do what he said he would do.

We are not discussing politics, but principles, Protestant principles of liberty. That liberty upon which America was founded is disappearing. Freedom of speech is not welcomed by many in America. To stand up and speak the truth is about to become illegal. In the Islamic countries of the world, some are put to death for speaking certain things against their religion.

Many in Europe are waking up to what they have lost. With the president of Turkey, Erdogan, establishing a renewed caliphate, it has become apparent that Europe is losing its freedom. "Recent experience with Turkey shows that Europe must set clear limits to its concessions. We can negotiate money but never our values. We cannot impose our standards on the rest of the world. Equally, others cannot impose their standards on us. Our freedoms, including freedom of expression, will not be part of political bargaining with any partner. The Turkish president must heed this message," Tusk emphasized.  source

What will be the future in America? In the not too distant future will there be laws against free speech. Will some want to put to death those who speak against a particular religion? Look at the various religions in America today and seek to understand what their fundamental beliefs say about freedom of conscience. It may be that Islam is not the only religion that would use the state to punish or put to death those who do not follow its tenets.

Monday Pope Francis will travel to Sweden to join with Lutherans who will be celebrating the Protestant Reformation which began when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of his church in 1517. Many professing Protestant Churches no longer understand what was protested in 1517 that caused Martin Luther to leave the Roman Church. Many theologians no longer understand the gospel of grace where only Christ is the Mediator between heaven and Earth, between man and God. They no longer understand salvation is by grace alone, that we are justified by faith. And, many do not believe that when we are converted, we will be filled with the fruits of the Spirit, all of them. Thus, they will unite with the Roman Church and come under her authority.

The Democratic administration knows no bounds when it comes to morality. The National Institute of Health in the United States is planning on lifting the ban on amalgamation of species under the guise of medical research. There is a brief period allowed for public comments.

With the advance in genetic engineering, it is just a matter of time before man repeats why it was God repented of having made man and destroyed every living thing on the face of the Earth except what was on the ark and in the sea.

The wise ones in the NIH explain they will take precautions to make sure certain things do not happen. Listen to a report by National Public Radio.

With this week's terrorist attack at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, Turkey continues to experience an increased amount of Muslim violence. Bomb blasts and automatic gun fire left 36 dead and at least 147 injured Tuesday when ISIS butchers turned on innocent civilians.

Turkey continues striving to become the acknowledged leader in the world of Islam. While ISIS is warring for the attention, Turkey's president continues moving his nation away from a secular government to an Islamic state. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a  Muslim prayer ceremony for Muhammad Ali, but changed his plans and refused to go the funeral.

"Turkish media reported that Erdoğan was vexed after funeral organizers rejected his request to lay a piece from the cloth covering the Kaaba — located in Islam’s most sacred mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia — on Ali’s coffin during a funeral ceremony. They reportedly also denied a request for Turkey’s top cleric, traveling with Erdoğan to the U.S., to read from the Quran at the multi-faith service, attended by 14,000 in Ali’s hometown, according to Turkish Dogan news agency."

The request if honored would have put the spotlight on him as a great leader in Islam. There has been much agitation coming from Turkey expressing the thought that Turkey (Erdoğan) needs to regain her position as leader of Islam (a caliphate). Even the New York Times in an op-ed piece has suggested Turkey's president be called “Sultan Erdogan”. It is hard to believe the editors at the Times have studied the Book of Daniel. They have no idea what they are publishing.

Look closely at the photograph. Do you see the tiny trail in the sand? So much time making so many loops, but what was the destination or purpose of travel?

As our family walked along the beach one cool, cloudy morning my husband's keen eyesight spotted the trail with a perishing worm at one end. He quickly scooped up the little creature and deposited it in a shady area but it was probably too late to save its life - it had worn itself out seeking. The photograph of its wanderings was taken shortly after the attempted rescue. It intrigued me that the little thing would spend so much time and effort going in circles. The trail reminds me of the various ways we humans look for happiness, fulfillment, or even the meaning of life, and often miss the mark..

Proverbs 18:2 states, "A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself."

The Christian's goal is to glorify God in words, actions, and dress; our reward is eternal life. We are not to seek what will glorify ourselves, or get distracted looking for pleasures that capture our time and attention. That is not to say that we should not find pleasure in life, but that what we chose to do has to meet a certain criteria. What we chose to occupy our time with (books, music, games, TV, internet, etc.) all effect our ability to achieve our goal. Our choices either advance or hinder our character development.

Over the years we have gone through our house and weeded out videos, books, toys, clothing, etc. that God has prompted us is not the best for Christian development. Each time he draws us closer to His standard of purity. When shopping or visiting the library we now ask ourselves if what we are about to get will help us reach our goal.

Like the little worm we may spend time wandering from one activity to the next, traveling in circles never achieving a purpose. Or we may rightly use God's word to direct us in our choices. A wise king once wrote, "Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." Ecclesiastes 12:13

Fear God: have a healthy respect and reverence for the One who created us.

Keep His commandments: His law which is "holy, and just, and good."(Romans 7:12)

Exodus 20:

1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

13 Thou shalt not kill.

14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

15 Thou shalt not steal.

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.

18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.

19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.

God's law is like a guardrail to keep us on the right path so we don't waste time going in circles in our Christian growth. Do the activities we choose so absorb our attention away from Godly things that we are making an idol out of them? Do they foster competition in our hearts as we try to be better than someone else instead of encouraging them on the right path? Perhaps they are seemingly innocent pleasures that distract us for a time away from something better. We need to filter our thoughts, activities, and dress through God's word, for this is the whole duty of man.

"It's too hot," the little girl grimaced as she tried to dig her bare feet beneath the powdery surface of the dirt trail. A nearly 1,600 foot drop in elevation from the cool mountains where she lived to our desert foothills revealed that her feet could not handle barefoot hiking like at home. My husband drew an extra pair of socks from his pocket and handed them to her. She timidly accepted the small gift, concern for getting white socks dirty written on her face as well as spoken. Those worries were soon put to rest, and she gratefully put on the socks. With a heart felt "Thank you!" she was soon sprinting up the trail.

Our destination was an aspen grove cradled in a rocky crevice, fed by a shimmering waterfall - a little niche of paradise in the desert. After enjoying the scenery and the company, it was time to leave. At the base of the trail the little girl looked at me with sad eyes and stated, "I think I put a hole in your sock." Smiling reassuringly at her I gently said, "Sweetie, I never bring two pairs of socks on a hike. This morning I felt silly not knowing which socks to wear so I brought a second pair. God knew you would need them. Early this morning, before anyone knew you would need them, God provided for you." A whispered, "Wow" was all she could say.

"Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:34-40

A small gesture, but it was all I could do, and in it I was more blessed than that little girl for I was allowed the privilege of touching God.

God's Love For Stray Sheep

A Testimony

By Desert Rose

It happened over a decade ago. Details have become blurred or missing over time, but I do remember the impossible position I was put in and the results.

He was only a puppy. So small, yet so full of life, even with his injury – a gaping gash on his throat that went all the way through the skin revealing his insides. Having called a vet and being told they could put him down for free, but would charge for anything else, and having no money, they turned to us for help. Actually, me. Could you stitch him up, was the plea.

I sew skirts, not puppies! No, I can't stitch up a puppy. They understood and started to leave. But I couldn't let them go. Wait – let's think this through again. We went over it and over it – none of us had money, the vet wouldn't work for free unless it was to put the animal down. But to stitch a puppy? No. I can't do it. They started to leave again. Wait! I still couldn't let them go. Silently I warred against my feelings. How could I say 'No?' Because I didn't want to hurt the creature – he was already hurt; because I was afraid it wouldn't help – he was already in a hopeless condition; because I just didn't want to stitch a puppy! His doom was ensured.

Cause of Disasters

Amid a great number of horrendous disasters, there are efforts to explain them.

Global warming is the explanation by many who reject Bible truth as to why we are seeing so many natural disasters. Yet many experts cannot tie these floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes to global warming.

We even hear a lot of "experts" telling us there are not more of these disasters. it is just that we have better reporting or an increase in population.

As believers in an omnipotent God and a powerful fallen angel, we know that there is more than we can see. We do not explain all that we see in nature in the same manner as do many scientists who do not believe. We do not see matters as did those who built the tower of Babel to rise above any future world-wide flood. No, we understand that God and Satan have powers to influence what we see in the natural world.

We have peace knowing "that all things work together for good to them that love God."  Satan may destroy, and he does, but he cannot do one thing that God does not allow him to do. As he is about this world wreaking havoc, we know that God is our Protector.

"I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." Psalms 91:2-7.

Blessing in Gardening

Living in the country is a blessing for families. An active out door life will develop health of both mind and body. Children should have a garden to cultivate, where they might find both amusement and useful employment. The training of plants and flowers not only teaches many good lessons, but by close contact with nature, the mind is pointed to God.
